SMARTLINE SENTINEL: IOT-DRIVEN LORA MONITORING FOR POWER TRANSMISSION NETWORKS
Abstract
The growing demand for reliable and efficient power transmission has highlighted the need for advanced monitoring systems for overhead lines. Conventional monitoring methods often involve high costs, limited scalability, and significant delays in fault detection, which can result in outages and reduced system reliability. This work presents a wireless monitoring framework for overhead power lines using Internet of Things (IoT) technology integrated with Long Range (LoRa) communication. The system leverages lowpower sensors to capture real-time data on key parameters such as line temperature, current, sag, and vibration, which are then transmitted via LoRa gateways to a cloud-based platform for analysis and visualization. LoRa’s long-range and low-energy communication capabilities enable cost-effective deployment across wide geographical areas, making it suitable for smart grid applications. Experimental results and simulations demonstrate that the proposed solution ensures reliable data transmission, energy efficiency, and robust fault detection, thereby improving the operational safety and resilience of the power grid
